about

Jordan -We got lost in Ottawa, literally and figuratively. We got off the main highway for five minutes and never found our way back onto it. We were at the mercy of the city. The shows were strange, but the people were nice. Ottawa wasn't such a cruel mistress, thanks to two kind souls who tagged along with us and served as our guides for the remainder of our stay there. The city wasn't really so different from any major US city we've been to, but it still seemed strange and exotic in the moment. Despite some setbacks (shows that didn't pan out, sub-par roadways), we were clinging to optimism and an Ottawa history lesson provided by the more well-versed of our tour guides.

Heath - For me, this song serves as the first real kick in the teeth. Sometimes things just don't happen the way you dream them up. There were some great experiences during our down time. I was able to see an amazing performance of "Freud's Last Session" performed by Ottawa's own 9th Hour Theatre Company. There was also disappointment. Shows don't go the way you hope, you leave poorer than when you arrived. On a lovely Sunday afternoon in October...we got to see all of the beautiful historical buildings in Ottawa as well as the American Embassy. It seemed fitting that the embassy was the ugliest building in the entire city. It was just there...ugly and out of place...like me.

Isaac - After our experience at the border, we sheepishly entered Ottawa (hours late from customs) to find a mostly pleasant weekend of playing music, exploring the capital with locals, & playing basketball as much as possible. In relation to most cities we visit, Ottawa was wonderfully uneventful. I did start to see my mind leave me though, as forgetting items became a new habit of mine. This seemingly insignificant occurrence was just worrisome enough stifle any ease I could've felt moving forward.
